CPAP Trouble Shooting Guide

PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
  • Dry nose or throat
  • Bloody nose
  • Cold or runny nose
  • Excessive Nasal Drainage
Air that is coming from the device is too dry or too cold
  • Increase heat level on humidifier insulate standard tubing to keep warm.
  • Switch to a climate control tubing and allow the device to maintain humidification
  • Switch your humidification settings to auto (ResMed) or adaptive (Respironics).
Air feels too warm or hot
  • Humidifier’s heat level is too high
  • Room temperature is too warm
  • Device is not well ventilated
  • Decrease heat level on humidifier
  • Keep device well ventilated
  • Switch to a standard tubing
  • Switch your humidifier settings to manual (ResMed) or fixed (Respironics).
Excessive water in tubing or mask
  • Humidifier’s heat level is too high compared to the room temperature.
  • Air surrounding standard tubing is too cold.
  • Decrease heat level on humidifier
  • Insulate standard tubing with a towel
  • Purchased tubing insulator.
  • Put tubing under the covers.
Redness or soreness where mask contacts the skin.
  • Incorrect mask fit
  • Normal reaction to the mask for the first couple of weeks of therapy. Skin should lose sensitivity over time.
  • Make sure mask is not too tight
  • Wash the mask daily to remove excess skin oil.
  • Replace cushion, if needed
  • Purchase mask liners
Dry or irritated eyes Mask is leaking upwards
Mask is leaking at the bridge of nose
  • Adjust the mask to eliminate upward leaking
  • Verify mask size is correct
  • Purchase nasal pad
Abdominal bloating/belching/gas
  • Swallowing air during the night
  • Common with full face masks
  • Try a nasal mask with chinstrap
  • Contact Sleepwatchers about setting adjustments
CPAP device will not power on
  • Loose connection with power cord
  • In-wall electrical outlet or power strip not functioning properly
  • Device is malfunctioning
  • Verify all power connections are secure from the power cord to the power supply to the device.
  • Power cycle your device: unplug power cord from wall/power strip/extension cords* for 30 seconds and plug back in.
  • Contact Sleepwatchers power is not restored to the device for possible warranty repairs or replacement eligibility.
  • *Extension cords should not be used with device.
